Calypso Dahlia

Hope you are having a great holiday weekend.  I had a chance to play with some of my stamping goodies this weekend.  This card is based on The Challenge #10 sketch.

Lesley also had a color challenge option this week.  I did start by pulling out the colors, but I stopped after kraft and coral.  I combined Stampin' Up Crumb Cake and Calypso Coral and really liked the combination.

 

 

The image and sentiment are from the Regarding Dahlias stamp set.  I replaced the banner element in the sketch with a tag punched with the Scalloped Tag Topper Punch.  I wrapped some retired Calypso Coral 3/8" Ruffled Ribbon through the tag opening.

Happy Saturday.  Today's card is inspired by the challenge at Seize the Sketch:

 

Over my next series of posts, I am going to feature the Simply Sketched stamp set from Stampin' Up and the This and That Epic Day designer series paper collection.  I love the look of Stampin' Up's Designer Series Paper, but once I get them I just can't seem to cut them.  This is my attempt to use up some of the my stash and make some great cards.  Of course, once I use it up I can always get more, right?  LOL!!

STARS Color My World

Here it is - Thursday again.  Time for another Color My World challenge. 

I thought about these colors for awhile before I came up with this card.  Actually, I ended by using Basic Gray instead of Smoky Slate.  I think it is still in the spirit of the challenge.  I love the Dahlia stamp and feel like it can be used in so many ways.

I started out making one thank you card, but then I couldn't stop.  The colors in the designer series paper I selected just inspired me to try other combinations.  The layout is fairly simple, but I just love the way they turned out.  I can't pick a favorite - they are all bright and colorful.  Let me know which color you like the best in the comments below.

Sometimes I think it is almost easier for me to make a card when I have some constraints on the elements I can use. If you have been "collecting" paper, inks, dies, punches, etc. for awhile, it can almost be overwhelming because you have so many choices.  The Dress Up Framelits from Stampin' Up are fairly new for me and I really had fun using them for this card.

All My Life's a Circle

Circles seem to be very popular in many of the online challenges this week.  The shape can be used in so many ways - to frame a stamped image, on it's own or stamped in a pattern.  For this card, I was inspired by the following challenge at CAS - Colors and Sketches Sketch Challenge. 

During the last week of the month, this website includes both a sketch and color challenge.  That was perfect for me since I love to combine color and sketch challenges to create my cards.  I may have broken the rules this week.  I added Silver and Smoky Slate to the colors (I hope the color police aren't watching).  LOL.  I just felt like they added so much to the design of the card - and I added more CIRCLES.

Open Sea Thank You

For today's card, I was inspired by the following sketch at the Paper Craft Crew.

 

 

I started with The Open Sea stamp set by Stampin' Up.  I enjoy using stamps to create texture on the cardstock. This adds more interest to the overall design of the card.  For the Basic Gray panel, I stamped a combination of the globe and compass with matching ink.  The small element was created using a stamp from the By the Tide set embossed in Silver embossing powder.  The sentiment is from Regarding Dahlias.

In Colors Banners

For the final card of this series, I wanted to show how the 2013-15 In Colors look great together.  For the banners, I stamped the cardstock using the Dahlia stamp and matching ink color.  The tone-on-tone effect adds both texture and color to your cards.  I used dimensional adhesive on the Crisp Cantaloupe and Pistachio Pudding banners to create some additional layers.  The sweet little bow is tied using the White Baker’s Twine.

Triple Time Stamping

This technique is easier than it looks. My Stampin’ Up upline Dawn Olchefske featured this technique on her website awhile ago.  This stamp set and color seemed perfect for this style.  I love the way Costal Cabana looks fresh and crisp with the Whisper White.

Dahlias in Strawberry Slush

For this first card, I created a clean and simple card.  The dahlia is stamped with Versamark and then heat embossed with white embossing powder.  The white baker’s twine breaks up the card front and separates the image and the greeting.  “Hello, You” is such a great greeting to send a quick card to a friend for any reason – and who doesn’t love the color?

Stampin’ Up 2013-2015 In Colors

Each year, Stampin’ Up introduces 5 new colors that are featured for 2 years.  The new colors have such yummy names – Baked Brown Sugar, Costal Cabana, Crisp Cantaloupe, Pistachio Pudding, and Strawberry Slush.

For my next series of cards, I am going to use these fabulous colors.  Stampin’ Up offers a great bundle that includes 5 ink pads and 20-sheet cardstock sampler.  Match that with some neutrals such as Smoky Slate and Whisper White and you have the foundation for some great cards. 

 

Now for the stamps.  For these cards I selected the new set Regarding Dahlias (130327).  This is a great set because it includes both an image and some great greetings.
